Hatch, a global aquaculture accelerator ran a high-impact startup program in Bergen, Norway. Startup equity financing was a core topic of the program. The Scale Up! simulation was used for a full-day, interactive workshop.
Significant emphasis was put on how to develop a full-scale, long-term funding roadmap, how to achieve the right valuations over time and how to build successful investor syndicates over time.

The CAP – Cluster Accelerator Program was Europe’s first-ever accelerated cluster leadership development program. Over four days, in Frankfurt, 20+ top European clean energy cluster managers explored the latest ideas, management practices, and strategy tools for innovation clusters.
The Supercluster! Simulation was used for an intense, hands-on evening session on day #2.

The leading ocean cluster, GCE Ocean Tech Cluster has long been advocating the need for scale-ups and scale-up financing. Over a series of years, the cluster has been investing in the MIT program, Disciplined Entrepreneurship.
Now, the cluster wanted to expand its skills and expertise in scale-up financing and long-term funding strategies. We developed a highly customized GCE Ocean Tech Scale Up! kit, including unique industry company cards and Investor Cards.
The Scale Up! simulation became a cornerstone of a multi-day program on scale-up financing.

The branch of Ana Seguros in Jalisco, an SME, wanted to develop their strategy for the next 5 years. The Transform! simulation was used to show them how visual tools could help them guide the discussions, and what questions should be considered before jumping to define objectives, metrics and initiatives.
It was also a great first step to involve the team members (not just the owners) in their first collaborative process to develop their strategy.

Each class session lasts 3 hours, so the first 2 would be used to discuss the business case and share some methodologies, and the last our would be used to work with the simulation, students would be physically in the same classroom where Rick would be providing in person feedback, while Javier would be guiding the Digital Simulation Session.

As the final lesson of a short course on scaling up your startup, the ScaleUp! The simulation was run to provide students with a larger view of the importance of developing a sound long-term funding strategy, the complexities, and nuances of building such strategies, and understanding how to put together a market cap. Although the simulation placed students in unchartered territory, it also provided an Aha moment for many of the students who realized the need to dig deeper into funding structures and mechanisms.

The Consulting Applied to Business course is an elective of the MBA program aimed to provide students with an in-depth perspective of the role of an internal business consultant. A Transform! simulation session was run as the closing class of the course, to test students on how they dealt with business issues such as designing new business models, building business model portfolios, structuring financial models, assessing possible M&A, and making bold strategic moves. The simulation provided real-life conditions for students to experience the key decisions boards of directors and executive teams get to make day in, day out. More importantly, they got a better understanding of the kind of uncertainties executives deal with and how to better support their decision-making process.
